Your Story

Has telling others about Jesus intimidated you, or in a moment of opportunity did you blank on what to say? Don’t worry; we’ve been there too. There’s something you have to share about Jesus that can make an impact. It’s your story.

In Acts 1:8 Jesus tells us, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Jesus calls us His witnesses. A witness shares what they know and what they’ve experienced. We are witnesses for Jesus in everyday life and have a story to share about what we know and have experienced.

Your story is important, unique and the people in your life need to hear it. Stories are compelling evidence which point to the power and presence of God.

Sharing your story is a simple and powerful way to tell people about Jesus.

Write Your Story

Answer these questions to help you shape your story.

  • What was my life like before Jesus?
Think about you lived your life before and how you felt during that time. If it’s helpful you can also think about who you would be without Jesus.

  • How has Jesus changed my life?
This is unique to you. Maybe it’s a significant event or a moment you felt close to God. It could be a transformation in your thoughts, attitudes or relationships. It could be how God was with you in a struggle. It could be how Jesus has used you to make a difference.

Take time to write down your story based on the following questions. As you write, keep the following in mind:

  • Be conversational. Focus on the thoughts, not the specific details.

  • Be honest. Don’t hide the messiness, and don’t exaggerate.

  • Be real. We are all a work in progress so don’t force it to be something it’s not.

  • Be simple. Don’t get cluttered on details, backstories or tangents people don’t need to know to understand how Jesus has changed you.

  • Be centered on Jesus. It’s all about Him.

Share your Story

Pray that God will help you remember the important parts of your story. Then take the next step and pray for ONE person to share your story with. God will answer that prayer, and it will be amazing for others to experience God through your story.

We’d also like to know your story! Will you share it with us?
